Band 2019-2020
The EMCS Concert Band has had it’s best season yet! It was a jam-packed year with performances, workshops, festivals, and concerts. Some new things happened this year: we designed our own T-Shirts to wear at casual events. The band took part in a phenomenal day of music called “Evolution of Band” at Belmont, giving a stellar performance with all of the other Sooke School District bands as well as the UVIC Wind Symphony, local community bands and the Naden Band. Of course, we also went online in March and had to adapt to using new technology like Smart Music, Google Meets, and Breezin’ Thru Theory instead of rehearsing together and planning our year end concert. In the fall, we traveled to Courtenay for a fantastic festival and clinic with an energetic professor Gareth Jones. Highlights were travelling on the bus, eating lots of timbits and fried chicken and listening to other groups perform. In late Winter we took part in the Annual Band Fest at the University of Victoria. Our musicians enjoyed hearing many talented students play with their groups, eating at the cafeteria, and a rigorous clinic with professor Wendy Grasdahl from Edmonton. Ms. Parliament would like to thank all of the dedicated students in our program as well as our fine arts department staff for making this the most fun, musical year. And would like to publicly acknowledge that she owes all of the band ice cream.
